A tribute to Dr. White

“I have always valued Kevin’s open communication and patience with myself as the Chairman of the Athletics Council. As the new President of the Council, I’ve been on a steep learning curve when it comes to athletics, and today I feel like I still am. I believe Kevin’s instinct as a teacher is an integral part of his personality and that is why I was never embarrassed to ask a stupid or stupid question in front of him and why he is able to explain a complicated subject the way a beginner would, like me can understand. Not only does he allow me to feel comfortable asking questions, he usually also thanks me for asking the question in the first place. How great is that?! Kevin’s concept of the family goes well beyond the White family. . . When Kevin invites you to his home or his box at Wallace Wade’s, you feel more than just a guest, he makes you feel like family (admittedly, it’s a very, very big family). Nonetheless, he shares stories, good wine, food, and fellowship, and tries to get to know you as a person. It was a privilege to be part of this extended family. Kevin, I hope your retirement years will be full of wonderful, memorable times that you have spent with ALL of your family members, immediate and expanded, near and far, with whom you have opened your heart and home over the years. “ – Linda Franzoni, Duke University
