Back on home soil after taking part in the Grand Circuit north of the border, high-profile harness racing mare Atlanta made a rare qualifying appearance at The Meadows on Monday, October 4th, in preparation for a trip to the Red Mile that weekend.

Rider Dave Palone pulled Atlanta out of his pocket at the 1:28 mark in the third quarter after following the easily ridden three year old filly Sweet Hope and sprinting one final frame of: 26.4, 20 lengths in 1: 54.4 to win over a sloppy route. Four-year-old gelding Laramie and first runner-up One Foot In Heaven followed in second and third place.

The Ron Burke trainee finished third behind winner When Dovescry and runner-up Sorella last time at the $ 233,000 Armbro Flight Stakes on September 17th at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Last year she won the Allerage Farms Open Trot on the Red Mile.

Atlanta has won half of its eight starts this season, making $ 289,428 for Crawford Farms Racing, Brad Grant and Howard Taylor. The victories of the six-year-old Chapter Seven mare in 2021 include the Sebastian K Invitational, the Dr. John R. Steele Memorial Trot and the Joie De Vie Trot.

A 29-time career winner, Atlanta amassed $ 3,149,038 in lifetime earnings while collecting an O’Brien Award and a pair of Dan Patch Award trophies.
