Local Masonic group celebrates 200 years in the Vigo district




TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO / WAWV) – Terre Haute Lodge No. 19, Free & Accepted Masons, will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the receipt of their charter on Saturday 18th September with an open house and rededication ceremony at the Terre Haute Masonic Temple.

Between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., visitors can take tours of the temple and view historical box records and artifacts. The Open House ends with a rededication ceremony by the Grand Lodge of Indiana, followed by an invitation-only banquet for members and their guests.

This lodge, the first of nineteen Masonic lodges that existed in Vigo County for the past two centuries, is the oldest organization of any kind in both Terre Haute and Vigo County as a whole, according to a press release. It was organized in 1819 when thirteen local Masons received permission from the Indiana Grand Lodge to establish a Masonic Lodge.
